Post by RadioMax » Thursday, 29 October 2009, 18:18 PM

Does this radio 2970N2 display the CB channels readout like CH 1,CH15A,CH40 when you push the Manual button like on the older 2950DX?

I'm interested in buying one too and as far as I know it does do it like the 2950dx.

I believe that is correct, but even then the radio will not stay in that mode, if you turn it off it comes back displaying the Freq.

I think what your saying is that when you turn off the radio and power it back up again it resets displaying the frequency.

Exactly RadioMax. On my RCI-2970 and 2995 you just push the Manual button and it will display the Band and channel instead of the Frequency, turning the VFO changes channels, this is very handy while driving. When the radio is turned off it will reset to the Frequency display when it is turned back on. The user manuals for these radios leaves a lot to be desired.

There are 8 transistors, "most people still believe they use the pill's" will heat up and depending on how the radio is tuned up they can get very hot. The fan section does a fairly good job for cooling and the heat sink helps dissipates the heat but I personally would like to see even more cooling.

If you run the radio for a while and it heats up the fan system will continue to run even after the radio is turned off much like radiator fans on many cars. So if you hear a sound after tuning off the radio most likely that is what you're hearing. so, be aware, there has been reports of some 2970N2's in a mobile out in the summer sun. when the temp gets really high and the unit gets hot the thermostatically controlled cooling fan will come on. thus, can run your car battery down. think about a relay in line so they unit can't get power even when it's turned off. JUST SAYING! 73's

it will, ONLY AFTER you have the E-chip installed in it. but, the E-chip does come with the 2970n2 when bought new. and very easy to do yourself. complete run down on the RCI Ranger 2970N2 and how to install the E-chip can be found here.... cbradiomagazine. com/Radio%20Reviews/RCI-2970N2/RCI-2970N2.htm (PLEASE REMOVE SPACE AT .
