what is this amp
I have seen many of these in the past, in fact a friend of mine had one years ago, well today another friend came over and gave me one, I am just curious exactly what kind it is and if anyone has heard of the pills that are in it, Im seeing about 75 watts dk on am with 4 watts in.
ALSO:
Since it has a mode switch for am/fm & cw/ssb What is the function/purpose of the PEP/RMS switch ???
any input on this is appreciated.

Re: what is this amp
You will find more by searching for "Hooker 100 Bilinear"
Hmm PT9797a... MRF450A or NTE336 (lil stronger) may work also
75W DK is to much, maybe it sounds best by trying to get it to about 30W
I impudently would say its clearly an american product since a true american CB-Operator in most cases dont understand or care about (but sometimes uses) FM and would overdrive the Amp as standard
Ok, you found it yourself but i got the pic too...
Regards

This looks like an attenuator. Other manufacturers sometimes even print "Class X/Y" for meaning HI/LO so this Amp in some way is 'honestly' toodirtyjob wrote:What is the function/purpose of the PEP/RMS switch ???

Re: what is this amp
Looks like the same board in my Digital Sports amps. I have a few ubum.
PEP /RMS is Hi/Lo power output.
I wouldn't drive it to any more than about 20-25 watts DK with a 2 to 1 1/2 watt input on AM.
May see a 100 watt swing on SSB with a peak reading power meter.
I think they are nice little low power amps especially for mobile use.

If you were using a FM transmitter you would drive it at nearly max DK output.
On AM & SSB the power increases with modulation so you have to turn down the DK to leave some room for the modulation power to be added.
On FM the power stays the same but the frequency changes with modulation so you can run it at a higher output.
Almost no FM in the USA, it is popular in Europe though.

Re: what is this amp
Those pills are stud mounted, treat it well and it will last. Beat it and you have a pile of junk as the pills are over $50 each if you can find.

Re: what is this amp
We have one like that at the shop that belongs to the owners dad. It is taken apart and the pills are missing. Did n't know what went in there until now. Thanks for posting the pics. Wonder if it can be modified for 2290, 1446 or 2879s?

Re: what is this amp
It's an amp that was produced in the mid to late 70's under names such as Hooker and Bimbo. It looks like somebody has blacked out the word "Bimbo" on the front of the amp just to the left of "bilinear". The PEP/RMS switch is indeed a Hi/Lo power switch. The one I have has two PT9784 transistors and puts out 90/110W, IIRC. Decent enough little amp, actually has a bit of filtering, the only thing I've ever had to do with mine was replace a relay once. Personally I'd leave it alone and not bother reworking it for more modern pills.
