Linx's New Truck

Post by linx » Thursday, 15 January 2009, 9:26 AM

I meant to post this right after I got it, but I forgot. I got a new truck about a week and half ago.

It's a strange story. I had a F250 Powerstroke with a big alt I had put in it, and some other addons. I found out they were retiring my truck and I was told to get all my stuff out of it. I had my radios, wiring, batteries, train horn, personal stuff, tookbox loaded with tools...all kinds of junk. I wasn't aware the company was buying me a new truck, so I started looking to buy a car. Next thing I know, I'm being told to go pickup my new truck that the company ordered for me. I was shocked b/c the economy is down, and construction is as good as dead around these parts. So I got the truck, and took a pic of it with my camera phone. The picture is not great, but I have yet to take another pic of it.

The reason I didn't know about it, was they ended up buying 2 trucks for the price of 1 and it wasn't a sealed deal. It's crazy how cheap they got these things. The company went to Dodge, Chevy, and Ford, and no one wanted to deal with us....and to think these companies are hurting for money?

Best of all, I didn't pick it out and it came with my favorite color...white. My first vehicle was white, and since then I've owned black, silver, green, and now back to white. Easist color to keep clean. When white gets dirty, it just looks like another shade of white, lol.

2009 Toyota Tacoma, TRD Off-Road package, 4x4 (of course), 4.0 V6, locking differentials, downhill assist, loaded with other TRD goodies, quad cab, leather seats (southern option only...not available anywhere else in the US). This thing is fully loaded...anything they offer, it's got. It's even got a factory backup camera, power everything, MP3 CD player, it's got a 110 400w plug in the bed of the truck, etc.

Unfortunatly I was told to keep all my radio equipment out of the truck, which is understandable...so I am. I'm not going to argue since it's a free truck.

So if you have the backup camera, I am assuming you also have the nav system?

Nope...it's different then most backup cameras I've seen. We have a Hummer H3 here at the company that has the DVD/Nav system and that screen serves as the backup camera too. Mine's a little different. About half of my rearview mirror is alotted to my backup camera. With the truck in reverse I can see the camera. With the truck not in reverse, all I see is a mirror.

It's kinda like this with the backup camera on/truck in reverse:
Image

But just a mirror when not in reverse for normal driving.

Course it can all be turned off, but I don't want to. It's built into the tailgate handle facing downward. Talk about awesome hooking up a trailer. You can back directly up to the trailer without having to go back and forth 10 times.

Unless I am mistaken, I think that is an accessory and not a Toyota feature. Those mirrors with the monitor in them are really nice.

I'm not sure. Every 2009 Tacoma the dealer had (Toyota dealer) had them installed, and it's in the owners manual as well. It also has a locking differential which is an odd factory option, and it also has a button you can push to where the front and rear drive (in 4x4) will turn at different speeds for getting stuck in the mud. All of this stuff is in the owners manual and the off road stuff is part of the TRD package.

The only thing I know of that is not factory, is it has leather seats, and just about all Toyota dealerships in the South will do that for a extra fee. They look 100% stock though, so it's a real professional job. It also has Husky floor liners that I installed front/back and has a Toyota bed mat I installed to protect the composite bed.

Here's a more accurate pic.
Image

Also, here's how it looks from the back. The handle is on the left to open the tailgate and camera is on the right. The camera is facing downward to see your back bumper area and receiver hitch.

Sharp lookin truck linx!!
I just recently got a 05 Tacoma black, access cab, 4 cyl., 5 spd, 2 wheel drive with 38,000 on it. I was lookin for a used one with all the features yours has but hardly anybody is sellin the Tacoma's they have and a new one was a little out of my price range. This one showed up at a dealer close by and I went by and looked at it and the previous owner had put 20" chrome wheels on, tinted the windows, put a A.R.E. camper top on the bed and boy did it catch my eye. It gets me from my apartment to school and back (about 3 miles one way) and the trip home on the weekends (about 40 miles) and that's all I need it to do...gets the ladies attention too. 8)

I'll have to get some pics of mine up if it gets warm enough for me to wash it this weekend.

Oh, I found out that water will freeze on the composite bed at 37 degrees. Took the camper top off the back to wash it real good a couple months ago and was standing in the bed and nearly fell when I slipped on the ice lol. Just thought you might wanna know.

Also check out tacoma world dot com for some good info and such.

Thanks. I'm looking into options now of installing a COUPLE of radios, lol. I just have to make it where they're removable as well as they don't damage the truck. As far as a CB, I have a 102, I may put it on a receiver hitch, then I just need some way to mount my VHF antenna where it won't scratch the paint or anything.

I'll have something installed eventually.

Thanks guys...I'm enjoying it.

Working on saving enough money to get a big motorized screwdriver antenna to put on the rear hitch of the truck. Then we'll be in business.

This Toyota is probably more American than most big auto manufacturers, including the big 3 other than maybe Ford. This truck is made in California with 90% American made parts. I don't think many other car manufacturers can boast those statistics. I don't care what part of the world the owners of the company live. It's made in America, by Americans, with American parts, to standards as good as American cars used to have. It's really no different than when Diamler (a German company) owned Dodge. It was still an American vehicle.

SO, what's your take on it?

My 08 Tacoma has a completely American made driveline. All DANA/SPICER. This truck is more American than any 1/2 ton Dodge trucks and more American than a lot of Chevy trucks. The Ford F-150 is the MOST AMERICAN truck made to date. Most cars built in the U.S. are assembled using at least some parts that come from somewhere else. The DODGE RAM is the LEAST American made truck lesser than the Toyota Tacoma and Tundras. The toyota Tundra is more american than the Chevy Silverado and the Ford Explorer.

This is what I've learned from the "American Made Index" of which we had plastered on the wall at the Dealership I used to work at.

Ford is the #1 top mfg for most american made vehicle.

They probably depreciated your older truck and had to buy a new one to keep the write-off.
