Windows 10

Hey Guys,
I've had the "Free Windows 10" icon on my PC's toolbar and I'm curious to know who has downloaded the new OS and is using it. Also what problems have you encountered and how do you like it. Bet I'm not the only one interested in this upgrade.

Hey..

I loaded windows 10 on my desktop a few weeks ago.

The only issue I had was it wasn't playing nice with my HRD program which after I reconfigured it...works great.

I am also curious about the new 10 program. I really don't like changes and comfortable with 7. I keep getting the screen pop up to try it for free , but would like to see more input. Good evening to you/yours from Georgia Dawg country.

I still have Windows 8.1 here on this machine but I have been using Windows 10 at work. We were using Windows 7 at work then the IT folks from Germany came in an upgraded everything to 10 and so far I really haven't had any issues at work. Granted I don't use my work computer like I do this one, but for business work it seems pretty good. It's more like Windows 7 than 8 or 8.1 is. It's easier to navigate your apps than the 8 versions were and they did fix to a point being able to get to a certain apps settings without having to go back to control panel. They also are trying to streamline it to function more like OSX but still need to go farther to get there.
I haven't been a big fan of Win 8 or 8.1 and like you I liked 7 better. I do think that Win 10 is much better than the 8's but I'm still going to wait until the last minute to upgrade just so they get as many bug fixes ironed out as possible. Since you're still using 7 I think your transition to 10 will be smoother than anyone switching from the 8's but you may want to wait for the same reasons as I am. Although from what I've read in reviews there hasn't been too many issues turn up so far with 10. Of course from my readings on the subject they haven't had that mass exodus of users switching just yet. I figure that will change around the holidays when folks get a lot of new toys set-up with 10 already. Then we might see if there's cause for quick bug fixes or not. Hope this helps.
Have a great weekend!

My laptop had 8 and then 8.1. I took the free 10 upgrade and am glad I did. At first it ran very slow and one day wouldn't boot up at all...just a black screen and sometimes a cursor. Finally after several restarts it gave me an oops message, reconfigured some things and did more updates. It did this once again about a week later. Now that that's all over with it has been running great for a month or two. If I had windows 7 I wouldn't upgrade to 10 but I really hated 8.

I agree with if I had Windows 8 or 8.1 I wouldn't have even started this topic, they are both slugs, I would have jumped on the free upgrade but I have Windows 7 pro and I'm very happy with it, I'm just feeling everyone out on whither it would be worth doing the upgrade.

I have read something about forced updates playing havoc on your drivers but maybe that's an issue for homebuilts or gaming machines, not really sure. I ran my xp online right up to the cutoff date and now I just use it for other stuff, running 7 on this one. I also had a laptop w/8.1 but gave that to my niece.

One thing to remember is that old operating systems like Windows 7 will stop getting updates at some point and then become a security hazard. By upgrading now why its free to do so with Windows 10 you save yourself some money. I have been running Windows 10 for a few months now with few issues. But over all its been good.

Well I went ahead and used the upgrade two weeks ago, it was painless, everything is working, drivers automatically updated to Windows 10, still got configure "one drive", figure out the app store (need to make a Microsoft account to use it), and my video card needs to be updated (it's just old).
I'll let everyone know if anything develops as I get to using it more and more.

Upgraded to 10 tonight from 8.1 and so far I don't like it. My laptop is only 7 months old and worked fine. With the upgrade and 3 hours into it it's already froze up once and Is slow with lag. My rail simulator has lag time now too. I don't like change anyway. I'll give it a few days and see if there's any additional updates for it to smooth out the wrinkles. If not It has a 30 day window to revert back to 8.1 button.

I like your Radio Shack Radio..... looks like my Magnum 357DX. Nice and simple to operate!!

Windows 10?? It'll take a while.... to get used to, but it works fine for me, I updated from 8.1 about a month ago.

upgraded from windows 8.1 back when it first came available, and only problem I have ran into is when using Google Earth it sometimes wants to freeze-up and you have to close the app and and re-open it...May have to remove Google Earth and re-down load it, but most of the time it works just fine.

I will note that you need twice as much RAM as the spec says, my Win7Pro on this desktop ran about 20% ram all the time and the Win10 is running 35% and the cpu is looping at 15 to 20%.

Just rebuilt my old desktop with windows10. 8 gig ram (have room to upgrade to 16) and 4.2 gig amd quad core processor. It runs very well and has improved my opinion of 10. The laptop I have is about double the minimum requirements and works ok but this new machine is nice.

The only thing about 10 is some older games are not compatible. I really don't play them anymore so it's not a big deal. I could have partitioned the hard drive and had XP and windows 10 but you are supposed to install the older version first and I'm going to leave it as is.

Check and see if their aren't any patches for those games. I can play Halo CE on 10 after patching. Even with low end current tech (Dual core CPU +4Gb DDR3 RAM) Halo just flies compared to the old stuff.

I'm loving Windows 10 on the Lenovo that was given to me recently. K330A with i3 2100 Dual core 3.1 GHz. I added a Corsair CX430 PSU, Gigabyte Windforce GTX960, 8GB RAM (12GB total) and a Cryorig H7 CPU cooler. 120GB SSD and 1TB HDD are in the mail. Original HDD was toast so I installed an 80GB HDD and installed 10 using the 7 COA with no problems whatsoever. This Comp is't exactly high performance but it vastly outperforms anything else I've had to date.

Nice. So far I haven't had any problems, I do over tax the CPU and memory often. I do now keep a lot of stuff on external drives and mainly the only thing on the computer HD is the operating system.

120GB Silicon Power S60 SSD and Toshiba 1TB HDD installed. Boot time is now 16-19 seconds. I definitely recommend an SSD to anyone looking to speed up their PC. Mine was not even a high quality SSD, but it is heaps faster than the old HDD.

The clock is running out for the free upgrade if you have win 7 or newer, think in July you will have the buy it and service updates for win 7 stop.

My computer quit after a few months after I went to 10. I got the reboot cycle that a few people got. Now I'm going back to 7 or 8.

I have installed 10 on an OEM Lenovo, an OEM Dell, and a homebuilt with a "Windows 7 compatible" motherboard, all with no issues. I understand sometimes there are issues, but are you sure it was not dying hardware such as an old HDD? Ive also heard of systems having some bugs, but getting worked out after a couple updates. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

The computer ran fine before the "upgrade". Works fine on wife's computer. I liked it but out of nowhere it would shut down.

Upgraded to 10 in December on our new Windows 8 machine. No problems at all. Installed Linux Mint on our old XP machine, have not had major problems with either one.
