LSB 38 freq
II just got a 2000 GTL that I picked up on that auction site. This is the first radio that I have had with a freq counter. 38 AM is on point with 27.3850. LSB shown 35.1825. Is that right? I was just thinking that LSB would be like 27.380 or something.

AM or SSB, don't mater, frequency should read the same...someone "may have" added some funny channels to that radio, and for some stupid reason used the Mode knob to go to those channels...
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Sounds like time for caps and an alignment.

Re: LSB 38 freq
Looks like I eill be making a visit to the cb shop. I was able to fix the d-104 myself but I'm not touching the inside of this radio. The mic had a battery in it so long that it rusted rotted and leaked. I just had to remove the battery and battery connector then re solder a new connector in place. That is about the extent of my golden screwdriver..

Re: LSB 38 freq
If you are reading 27Mhz on other modes AM and USB and 35MHz on the counter in LSB then it is not getting the LSB 7 MHz offset freq. I would check test point 3 at CH19 LSB for 7.7985Mhz signal if it is not there then check the mode switch then the LSB Xtal osc circuit.
35.1835 on the counter would be 38 LSB minus xx.xx10 Mhz and missing the LSB offset freq
The counter in the 2000gtl uses the 11.1125MHz trippled freq of 34-35 MHZ at (TP Test point) TP1 minus the mode offset freq at TP 3
7.8000 MHz for AM
7.7985 MHz for LSB
7.8015 MHz for USB
Example: CH20
AM 35.0050Mhz at TP1 - 7.8000 MHz at TP3= 27.2050 MHz
LSB 35.0035Mhz at TP1- 7.7985 MHz at TP3= 27.2050 MHz
USB 35.0065Mhz at TP1- 7.8015 MHz at TP3= 27.2050 MHz

Re: LSB 38 freq
If the counter is reading 35 MHz no way in heck an unlocked clarifier can skew it 10MHz. I have worked with tons of these and it is a fact that 35Mhz on the counter it is missing the offset freq input given that it reads correct on AM the counter works and it is getting the 7.8Mhz am offset freq and the voice lock is working.

Re: LSB 38 freq
I think redlght is right on the money, if the problem is only LSB try adjusting L30 but most likely someone got into the radio to try and adjust the SSB and broke the load/choke/coil, whatever term you like to use. You could get the PLL go screwy by the clarifier if you have it choked up to slide up or down over 10kc. When making adjustments always have the clarifier centered.

Re: LSB 38 freq
What does it read in USB mode?
I would like to know if it tx's at all on say ch20 lsb (with a 1KHz tone at mic input or use a second radio as a receiver) on the right freq with an external counter then only the internal counter isnt getting the offset freq. If the offset freq wasn't getting mixed in it would go unlocked and the tx inhibit would activate and not transmit.
If it does TX on LSB to a second radio on the right frequency then i would look at the plug for the 35 and 7 mhz input to the counter for a bad or broke connection first or fet502 went bad. I have also seen dirty or bad mode switches cause this.
